• high density planting

-how do you amplify the output of a small space?

Take the trees that have traditionally been grown in 10-20 foot spacing and plant them at 6ft spacing. The farm is the perfect example show you exactly what you can do on an acre of high density planted land.

  • interplanting

    - going along with our style of high density planting we have also been interplanting. We have examples of how you can interplant within those trees/crops to create more production and diversity on small scale. While also finding crops that can work together to be more productive for example coffee and avocados.

  • carbon sequestration

    - as he has been farming Scott has been working to find more and more ways to sequester carbon and bring carbon drawdown to all of the farms he is able to touch. He is extremely passionate about helping people find ways to sequester the carbon that they have been consuming.

  • research

    - going hand in hand with the carbon sequestration Scott has been working to research many different plants and their efficient ways of sequestering carbon. Scott has found that there are many plants that work compatibly to grow in unison.

  • water wise growing

    - with the water on the farm the biggest thing farmer lily talks about is “maintaining soil moisture” we are growing in a high desert here and we only want to use water that we can wisely afford. We are not growing avocados specifically in the old style where you water for hours on end then wait days to water again. We are watering consistently and not letting the soil completely dry out so that we dont struggle adding moisture back into the soil.

  • low chill fruit trees

    - here on the farm we have 59 different varieties of trees in “Lily’s orchard” all of those trees are under 450 cold hours. What this means is the hours below 45 degrees between October 31st and February 28th. We have this planting with so many different types so we can evaluate what does best here in our microclimate of southern california and advise our clients what they could do as well.
